For a luxurious look and feel, a satin sheet set is the perfect option. Silk feels nice, but it does not give the sheen of today’s satin fabric. While satin can be made from silk it is quite expensive. It is usually made of polyester or rayon today. What gives it the sheen is the weave that allows some threads to remain on top, catching the light.

Even those on a limited budget can afford satin sheet sets today. They are available in many different prices ranges. What is important is to consider the thread count. Like bedding made of other materials, higher thread counts mean greater durability and usually a softer feel to the skin. There are lighter and heavier weight materials used as well. This is something to consider if you live in climate with extreme heat or extreme cold. You should also be careful to avoid knit acetate products, which are not nearly as comfortable as a woven satin sheets set. Bedding made of this fabric is sometimes known as bridal satin. It is heavy and has an elegant luster, but does not wear nearly as well as the woven fabrics.

Many retailers sell the woven polyester version. It can be found in wide variety of solid colors, to match nearly any bedroom decor. Gold, midnight blue and even hot pink are some of the color offerings for bedding of this fabric. If you are in the store and are selecting the products for your own bed, you have an advantage. You can ask to open a package and feel the fabric against your skin. If it does not feel comfortable in the package it will not feel good when you get it home.

Of course you will pay more for higher quality bedding products, but you can find a satin sheet of decent quality, even if you have a limited budget. You can find a woven polyester 250 thread count set at well known retailers, in a variety of solid colors with coordinating trim, for around $40 in king size. This is an excellent value for any type of bedding and has an adequate thread count to make it comfortable on the bed.

While prints are not widely available, some retailers are beginning to offer them in limited color schemes. You can find a 300 thread count print in the largest size for around $50, which is a great value if you really want something more than a solid color.
